Kingdom

TV Show

Kingdom is a Netflix K-drama about a zombie outbreak in the Joseon era, aka a period drama about zombies. It is amazing and I highly recommend it to everyone/anyone who is not afraid of a little gore!! Even though I personally hate horror movies and things that are gory, I’m somewhat ok with zombies…when the story is done RIGHT!

I think the pacing of Kingdom is really good - the very first scene is kind of anxiety-inducing, but it gets you interested enough to keep going. By the end of the first episode, things are getting really intense. Each season is only 6 episodes, and each episode is action packed and really interesting, so I was pretty much hooked from beginning to end. I also think it’s great that the story is unpredictable, and the villains are so fun to hate.

I also think that the production value of this show is really high. All of the makeup and FX(?) on the zombies look really good, and there are some scenes that look great in terms of camera angles, prop design, etc. One scene that comes to mind is when they were fighting in this tall field of dry grass during sunset, and it was really beautiful to watch. I did find it funny how sometimes a main character would receive MULTIPLE arrow/gunshot wounds in their back (and THROUGH THE CHEST) and yet somehow not die on the spot. I literally yelled at my screen “THERE’S NO WAY,” as I watched them crawl a good distance away to whisper their dying words. A bit ridiculous, but hey, they gotta reveal some pivotal plot information in their final moments in order to keep the story going! Keep them alive why don’t you!

Overall, this drama is SO GOOD and is such a pleasure to watch. I read online that the writer is hoping to keep the story going for some time (potentially 10 seasons??), so I have high hopes that season 3 is already a possibility!
