Everything I Never Told You

Book Review

Everything I Never Told You is a book by Celeste Ng, who also wrote the bestselling book, Little Fires Everywhere. I liked the characters in Everything I Never Told You, and thought that the book was engaging. Celeste Ng is a great at bringing out the deep insecurities of her characters and explaining how their past traumas have brought them to their current decisions. I also liked how this book explores how being in an interracial family can be tough, especially in a time/environment where that may be rare. Overall, this book isn’t exactly fast-paced or riveting, but I thought it was deeply thoughtful and endearing.

I thought this book was similar to Ng’s other book, Little Fires Everywhere, in its structure and character development. For instance, both books start out with a major even that disrupts the lives of every character, and then there’s a whole unraveling of the events that lead up to it. Personally, I think I enjoyed Little Fires Everywhere more, so if you’re unfamiliar with this author, I would recommend you try that book first!
