The Gifted School

Book Review

I didn't expect to like this book so much, but something about this story and its characters really resonated with me. The Gifted School is a book that deals with the modern day anxieties of parents wanting their kids to go to the best schools and be recognized for their high IQs and "genius." It essentially addresses first world problems of rich people in a rich neighborhood wanting to one-up each other. A lot of the characters in this book are really frustrating, but this book was written really well and it was really engaging for me. Just like the overly competitive parents, I was on the edge of my seat wanting to know which kid would get accepted into the school and what the major reveal was going to be at the end. I thought the climax was a bit cliche...and the resolution wasn't really fully fleshed out...but I guess the lesson is that even if things spiral out of control, we're all still redeemable as humans if we self-reflect and try to improve ourselves. I feel like this book ends on a tone of hope, which was pretty satisfying.
