Work It Movie Review: Another Netflix rom com with Jordan Fisher and a senior home, but throw in dancing!

Work It is a Netflix rom com dance movie starring Sabrina Carpenter, Liza Koshy, and Jordan Fisher. The story revolves around how Sabrina’s character (I honestly don’t remember any of their character names at this point lol) is trying to get into her dream college, but needs to prove to the admissions officer that she has a passion for something outside of just school. So even though she has no background in dance, she makes it her mission to learn how to dance, gather a rag tag group of dancers, and compete in a dance competition. The story and the script are cheesy and cliche, and this is one of those movies that you can throw on in the background and not pay that much attention to. Because even if you do space out for a few minutes, you’re probably not missing out on much. I thought the actors/actresses were great though! Jordan Fisher is such a heartthrob…

This movie is like Gen Z’s version of Step Up, but I wasn’t a big fan of the execution. From a romance, comedy, and dancing standpoint, I found it to be pretty lackluster. The romantic plot-line between Fisher and Carpenter’s characters moved too fast, and it was clear that the movie wasn’t trying to make it the focal point. I had high expectations for Liza Koshy to be the comedic relief, but maybe because I had high expectations, I found this movie only marginally funny. With comedy and romance out the window, the only saving grace was supposed to be the dance sequences, but the group choreography was pretty uninspiring and unmemorable. There is just one dance sequence I absolutely loved, and that was the one with Jordan Fisher and the piano.

In conclusion…

Work It is not trash, it’s not great, it’s just “meh.” If you’re a fan of rom coms and dancing, I think you’ll still get a kick out of this movie. But for anyone on the fence, I don’t think it’s worth your time.
