Ted Lasso Season 1 Thoughts: Perfect Time for Wholesome Content
Ted Lasso is an Apple TV+ comedy series about Ted, a sunshine-y do-good-er from America, going to England to take on a full-time coaching gig for a Premiere League football team. It is a feel-good show where things aren’t taken too seriously and every character will find a way to nestle into your heart. Ted, for instance, is ridiculously likable. If you take all of the optimism from Leslie Knope and throw in some midwestern dad jokes, you’ll get something similar to Ted Lasso. While the show’s premise is centered around a fictional football (soccer) club, it’s less about the actual game and much more about the behind-the-scenes moments in the locker room, talks on the practice pitches, and moments that happen in the characters’ daily lives. It is a story about a coach inspiring the people around him to be better people and teammates to each other. Though not particularly original as a storyline, you can’t deny that the formula works and each episode is full of heart and hilarity.
Ted Lasso strikes a good balance between being a light-hearted episodic comedy and a serial drama with developing themes. And while the show is probably not super high budget, it tricks the audience into feeling like it’s grander than it seems, such as with the vibrant use of colors and big arena scenes. I find this show an all-around good watching experience and cannot recommend it highly enough!
