Nadiya Bakes TV Show Review: Destress and Relax

Nadiya Bakes is a Netflix Original baking show hosted by Nadiya Hussain, where each episode is a showcase of her different and unique recipes. While Nadiya talks through each ingredient and the step-by-step process of each recipe, the intent of the show is more so to kick back and relax while watching food satisfyingly come together. If you’re a fan of the Great British Bakeoff, you might remember that Nadiya was originally a contestant on that show. Her popularity really skyrocketed after the world got to see her quirky and sweet personality shine alongside her unique and flavorful bakes. And as any smart and savvy businesswoman would, Nadiya was able to utilize and capitalize on her popularity by showcasing more of her cooking through writing cookbooks and now even hosting this cooking show! I usually don’t watch cooking shows because I hate feeling hungry while watching TV, but I absolutely adored Nadiya Bakes. If you are a fan of Bake-Off, I think you will love this show as well.

First of all, Nadiya is a ray of sunshine in the kitchen, and this show really showcases her motherly, sweet, and cheerful personality. From the trailer alone, you will see her squealing over baked goods and eagerly cutting into her finished creations. And what makes her cooking really lovely is how she puts her own twist on delicious classics. She mixes and matches ingredients to create something that is wholly original, and it’s just a joy watching everything come together. Each episode is around 30 minutes, during which Nadiya bakes four different recipes around a particular theme (i.e. chocolate, pastries, etc.). Each episode also showcases a baker, chef, or home cook that excels at a certain craft. Nadiya trademarks herself as being an amateur, at-home chef who is by no means an expert. But in this way, she feels really accessible to us and her recipes are framed in a way where it feels doable for the average baker/chef. Of course, the majority of these recipes are things that I probably would still never attempt. I’m just glad that watching this show became my cheerful escape from a busy workday.

In conclusion…

I usually shy away from food-related shows, no matter how adored or well-reviewed they are. However, Nadiya Bakes sucked me in from the trailer because 1. I have familiarity and love for Nadiya from the Great British Bake-Off and 2. I thought the show looked adorably pleasant and would be a great watching experience. I am really surprised by how much I adored this show and looked forward to watching it! Definitely recommend for a casual watching experience, especially if you are watching by yourself and looking for something chill to do while eating meals.
