My Top 10 Favorite Shows of 2020!

It’s my last post of the year! 2020 was a big year for TV shows, and below is a list of my top 10 favorites! These shows were super addictive to me and ultimately a reflection of my personal taste. They made me laugh, cry, and feel all the feels!

Thank you for checking out my blog and subscribing to me on Substack (aka all 10 of my friends I LOVE YOU). Sharing an email newsletter was something I started for the first time this year. I’m so happy that it has helped me expand my reach and love for shows/movies, even if it was just a little bit more. Can’t wait to keep on sharing reviews in the new year! And of course, let me know if any of the 10 shows below also spoke to your soul like they did to mine ;).

#1. The Queen’s Gambit

BECAUSE IF YOU EVEN KNOW ME THIS IS AN OBVIOUS #1. The Queen’s Gambit is a Netflix limited series that took the later months of 2020 by storm. It takes the world of competitive chess and makes it addictively entertaining. Definitely a must watch!

#2. Haikyuu!!

Haikyuu is love. Haikyuu is life. Anime really made a comeback in my life this year, and no show has gotten me as addicted and fan-girl-y as Haikyuu. The CHARACTER GROWTH, the COMPETITION, the UNDERDOG STORY! Don’t knock it til you try it (first two seasons are on Netflix).

#3. Tower of God

I went into Tower of God with little to no expectations, but ended up really loving this show! This fantasy adventure anime is an adaptation of a Korean webtoon. The premise is that the characters are trying to clear their way through challenges in order to get to the top of a tower. The world is extremely vast and the characters come from very rich backgrounds. Definitely an adventure story you’ll want to keep watching.

#4. Bojack Horseman

This is a must watch for any of you entertainment nerds out there. Definitely my favorite adult cartoon ever because of how deep and hilarious it is. Final season was *chef’s kiss.*

#5. Great British Bakeoff 2020

GBBO-01.jpg

This show had to be on my favorites list for the pure joy it brought me every Friday on Netflix. Think a lot of friendly British people making desserts in a tent together, cracking jokes, and stressing out over undercooked (or overcooked) cake.

#6. Aggretsuko Season 3

LOL DON’T JUDGE ME BUT I LOVE AGGRETSUKO!!! It’s very much not a show that you would expect to be on a top 10 list, but these short episodes brought me so much joy when I was going through it. Season 3 was especially entertaining for me with the underground pop idol storyline and Haida-kun’s storyline.

#7. Insecure

A hilarious HBO comedy that will make you a loyal fan by season 2. The acting is superb, the comedy is golden, and the writing will keep you wanting more.

#8. March Comes In Like a Lion

If you consider yourself an anime fan, you can’t sleep on this show. March Comes In Like a Lion is a coming-of-age story of a high schooler who is also a professional shogi player (a Japanese strategy game like chess). If you liked The Queen’s Gambit, I think you will really enjoy this show as well :).

#9. Chihayafuru

From this top 10 list, I think you can tell that I have a soft spot for shows about competitive games LOL. Chihayafuru is one of the first anime I watched this year about high schoolers who play competitive Karuta, a Japanese card game. I started it for the romance, but kept going for the thrill of the story. Also a must watch if you love stories like Haikyuu.

#10. The Promised Neverland

Promised%2BNeverland-01.jpg

Last but not least, The Promised Neverland is a perfectly creepy and thrilling story about children at an orphanage. Their circumstances are not at all what they seem like on the surface, and the story will slowly unravel the mystery of their world. Super engaging and creepy (if you’re into that sort of thing LOL).
