Dash & Lily TV Show Review: Short, Sweet, and Cheesy

Dash & Lily is a Netflix series that consists of 8 episodes of Christmas cheer in New York City. It’s a romcom where the premise is that the two main leads come across each other by chance through a red notebook, and open up to each other through writing back and forth. The concept is pretty cute, and I can totally imagine myself enjoying the book version of this story, where more can be left to the imagination. I liked that the episodes were digestible 25-30 minute long segments, instead of an hour like most TV shows are. Overall, this is definitely a show that I would throw on in the background and multi-task with, because it doesn’t really demand your full attention.

I was actually pretty excited to watch this series, mostly because I’m a fan of Austin Abrams (the actor who plays Dash), after seeing him in Euphoria. I liked the character of Dash a lot more than Lily in the beginning, but Lily does grow on you. I liked how there were a good number of Asian or half-Asian actors in the series, especially when it came to Lily’s family members. Another highlight for me was the mochi scene when Dash was surrounded by a bunch of Japanese grandmas. When it came to the story, I thought the first few episodes and the back-and-forth dares were interesting, but not super exciting to watch. I was getting a bit bored until around episode 6, when the stakes are raised a little bit with the introduction of some new characters. And I have to say, the moment when Dash and Lily met was really cute, and I was living for their chemistry. The ending is cliche and I wasn’t into the final scene, but I admit I’m not the biggest fan of romcoms in general. I’m sure that fans of romcoms would love the progression of this story.

In conclusion…

As the title of this review suggests, Dash and Lily, is a cute Christmas series filled with New York City vibes and Christmas cheer. You’ll feel warm and cozy watching it, if you can get over the cheesiness factor of some of the dialogue. I don’t think it’s amazing or gripping, but I did have a good time watching it!
